Goldwell numbering system

Goldwell Topchic organizes shades as level + reflect letter:

  • Level (1-10): Color depth. 1 = black, 10 = lightest blonde.
  • N = Natural
  • A = Ash
  • G = Gold
  • K = Copper (from German Kupfer)
  • R = Red
  • V = Violet

The K comes from the German word Kupfer, meaning copper. It is equivalent to the C (Copper) in Matrix or the .4 in Wella/L'Oreal. Goldwell uses German terminology because it is a German-origin brand.
