Guide to measuring hair dye and developer correctly
Why accurate measurement matters
Measuring the exact amount of color and developer avoids three common problems: running out mid-application (uneven results), wasting product (increased costs), and altering the chemical ratio (unpredictable results). Precise measurement saves money and improves outcomes.
How hair density affects the amount
Hair density is the most overlooked factor when calculating quantity. Fine hair needs up to 25% less product, while very thick hair may require 50% more. Do not confuse density (hairs per cm2) with texture (thickness of each strand): both influence the amount needed.
Special services: highlights, toner and correction
Each service requires a different amount. Partial highlights use less product because they only cover sections. Toner uses less because it is applied on pre-lightened hair (the open cuticle absorbs faster). Color corrections need more product to ensure complete saturation and effective neutralization.
