Igora uses a dash notation to separate level and reflect: 7-1 means level 7, cendré reflect. Important: in Igora, 5 after the dash means gold (in Wella, /5 is mahogany) and 7 means copper (in Wella, /7 is brown).

Igora numbering system

Schwarzkopf Igora organizes shades as level-reflect:

  • Level (1-10): color depth, from 1- black to 10- ultra blonde.
  • Reflect: -0 natural, -1 cendré, -2 ash, -3 matte, -4 beige, -5 gold, -6 chocolate, -7 copper, -8 red, -9 violet.
  • Two digits after the dash (like -76): the first is the primary tone direction (the dominant shade) and the second the secondary, per Schwarzkopf's US wall chart. With the same digit twice (-88, -11), both directions are the same reflect: judge its strength from the swatch.

Igora Royal is the permanent line: gray coverage, lift and deposit. Igora Vibrance is ammonia-free demi-permanent: toning, color refresh, and shine.

Note: Igora prints its own reflect key: there is no shared standard across brands. Its -5 is gold (in Wella, /5 is mahogany) and its -7 is copper (in Wella, /7 is brown). Check the key printed on your chart.

Igora Color Chart

Igora Royal is ammonia-based permanent color: it lifts, deposits, and covers gray. Igora Vibrance is ammonia-free demi-permanent: it only deposits color, ideal for toning, refreshing, and adding shine. Royal lasts until it grows out, Vibrance fades gradually.

Schwarzkopf uses its own reflect key. -5 is gold (in Wella, /5 is mahogany), -7 is copper (in Wella, /7 is brown) and -6 is chocolate. With two digits after the dash, the first is the dominant tone and the second the secondary one, per Schwarzkopf's US wall chart.

Per Schwarzkopf's US wall chart, Igora Royal Oil Developer goes: 3% (10 vol) for coloring darker and covering 100% white hair; 6% (20 vol) for tone-on-tone, coverage on white hair and lifting 1-2 levels; 9% (30 vol) for lifting 2-3 levels; 12% (40 vol) for lifting 3-4 levels with the Ultra Blonde series (10-) and 4-5 levels with the Special Blonde series (12-), the latter on natural base 6 and lighter. Yes. Igora Vibrance is an ammonia-free demi-permanent: it deposits color without lifting and fades gradually. Salons use it to tone blondes, neutralize unwanted tones and add shine; unlike Igora Royal, it is not meant to lift.

To tone blondes with Igora Vibrance: 1) Lighten to the level you need. 2) Mix Vibrance 1:1 with Vibrance activator, as Schwarzkopf's US wall chart lists it. 3) Apply to damp hair. 4) Process following the manufacturer's directions for timing.
