L'Oreal Color Chart: Majirel & Dia Light Toner

Dia Light is an acidic demi-permanent toner (low pH): it deposits color, tones blondes, and delivers exceptional shine without lifting. It is L'Oreal's reference toner for toning blondes after lightening. Dia Richesse complements the line as an alkaline demi-permanent with more coverage.

L'Oreal uses a dot notation to separate level and reflect: 7.1 means level 7, ash reflect. The first number after the dot is the primary reflect, the second (if present) is secondary.

L'Oreal numbering system

L'Oreal Professionnel organizes shades as level.reflect:

  • Level (1-10): Color depth. 1 = black, 10 = lightest blonde.
  • Primary reflect: First digit after the dot. .0 = natural, .1 = ash, .2 = iridescent, .3 = gold, .4 = copper, .5 = mahogany, .6 = red.
  • Secondary reflect: Second digit (optional). .43 = copper gold, .11 = deep ash.

Majirel is the flagship permanent line: full gray coverage, lift and deposit. Dia Light is acidic demi-permanent (low pH): ideal for toning, refreshing, and adding shine. Dia Richesse is alkaline demi-permanent: more coverage than Dia Light, without lifting.

Majirel is permanent color: lifts, deposits, and covers 100% gray. Dia Light is acidic demi-permanent (low pH): deposits only, ideal for toning blondes and adding shine. Dia Richesse is alkaline demi-permanent: covers up to 70% gray without lifting, ideal for first grays.

The double digit .11 indicates a deep/intensified ash reflect. Unlike .1 (standard ash), .11 has a higher concentration of blue-green pigment. It is ideal for neutralizing warm undertones in previously lightened hair or achieving very pronounced ash results.

L'Oreal recommends: 6% (20vol) for 1-2 levels of lift and gray coverage, 9% (30vol) for 2-3 levels, 12% (40vol) for maximum lift with Majirel High Lift. For Dia Light, use the specific Dia activator (2.7%). For Dia Richesse, use Richesse activator 6vol or 9vol.

Very similar. Both follow the universal level/reflect system. The main difference is notation: L'Oreal uses dots (7.1), Wella uses slashes (7/1). Reflect codes are the same (.1 = ash, .3 = gold, .4 = copper). However, intensity and visual results vary due to differences in pigments and base.
