Wella Illumina Color Chart: 43 shades with level and reflect

Illumina Color is the Wella Professionals permanent built so colour reflects light instead of flattening it. Wella bases it on Microlight technology, which protects the cuticle so light passes through the hair and the colour reads differently depending on the lighting. That is why its shades get asked for so often on worked blondes and on brunettes that refuse to look flat.

Here are all 43 shades with level, reflect and approximate swatch. The chart was checked on 21 September 2026 against Wella’s official grid and against the brand’s professional store, which is how eleven missing shades came in, the 6/76 among them.

It shares numbering with the rest of the house. For the classic long-chart permanent, that is Koleston Perfect, in the Wella chart; to tone without lifting, Color Touch.

How to read an Illumina shade

Illumina uses Wella’s slash numbering: 7/43 = level 7, primary reflect 4 (red) and secondary 3 (gold).

  • Level (before the slash): the depth, from brown to lightest blonde.
  • First digit after the slash: the reflect in charge.
  • Second digit: the supporting tone, always in a smaller proportion.

The reflect key: 0 natural, 1 ash, 2 matt, 3 gold, 4 red, 5 mahogany, 6 violet, 7 brown, 8 pearl, 9 cendre. A code ending in a slash with no digits, like 7/, is the pure natural of that level.

An 8/13 means the same in Illumina, in Koleston and in Color Touch: level 8, ash with gold. The chemistry changes, the reading does not.

Everything you need to know

1:1 with Welloxon Perfect, that is 60 g of colour to 60 g of developer. The exception is glossing and toning services, which go 1:2 with Welloxon Perfect at 1.9%.

The Welloxon Perfect percentage sets it:

  • 1.9% (6 Vol): glossing and toning, sheer result.
  • 4% (13 Vol): deeper results on natural hair.
  • 6% (20 Vol): 1 level of lift, same depth or darker, and grey coverage.
  • 9% (30 Vol): 2 levels.
  • 12% (40 Vol): 3 levels.

30 to 40 minutes at room temperature, or 15 to 25 minutes with a Climazon. Wella asks you to always allow the full development time: cutting it short is what leaves grey only partly covered.

Wella claims up to 100% coverage. The approach changes with how much grey there is. Up to 70%: start with the area holding the highest percentage of grey. From 70 to 100%: mix the chosen shade in equal parts with the natural shade of the same level and use Welloxon Perfect 6%. Wella’s own example: 30 g of 7/ plus 30 g of 7/35 plus 60 g of 6% developer.

Watch out for the Opal-Essence shades: they deliver the line’s opalescent finish but give no grey coverage, and they gently lighten natural hair.

In what each one is built for. Koleston Perfect ME+ is the long-chart permanent, with the full reflect range and coverage as its banner. Illumina Color bets on how colour behaves under light, with a shorter chart heavy on cool and multi-tonal nuances. They share numbering, so translating a code between them is direct. See them side by side in the Wella chart.
